Join us on Earth Day at the Downtown Plymouth Spring Artisan Market, and at workshops throughout the spring at the Plymouth Community Arts Council, for a community partnership art project celebrating Michigan and nature!! Community members will be creating art pieces using wood rounds from trees lost to storms at Michigan Legacy Art Park (MLAP). They will all be donated to become part of Michigan Blue - a grant-funded, blue wave mosaic art installation at MLAP in Thompsonville, Michigan.
This community art project brings together all things that make you think of your own Michigan Blue. Subject matter might include water, lakes, streams, clouds, flowers, cars, music, or other things blue. They could also reflect emotional experiences or abstract artwork inspired by the wood itself. Rounds become the property of Michigan Legacy Art Park to be included in the art installation onsite. Michigan Blue will be on display for this summer of 2023 and into the winter. This project is being led by Michigan Legacy Art Park’s Education Director and environmental artist Patricia Innis with artist Dewey Blocksma as an advisor. In Plymouth, email lisa@plymoutharts.com to set up a workshop for your group or family! Exploring the Color Blue How does the color blue make you feel? How does the color blue feel to the touch? Does it have a texture? How might the color blue smell? Describe what the color blue might taste like. What kind of sound might the color blue make? This project is supported in Plymouth by the Plymouth Community Arts Council, and at Michigan Legacy Art Park by Benzie Sunrise Rotary Club, Michigan Arts and Culture Council, and National Endowment for the Arts. |
