Dear BaseLine Family,
What a grand re-opening we had in February! It was a warm and welcome night of song together with friends and family. As Sonny and Cher sang so many years ago, "...and the beat goes on!"
Now we find ourselves in March and looking forward to another third Saturday! Charles Dickens describes most aptly in Great Expectations a recent day we experienced last week. He wrote, "It was one of those March days when the sun shines hot and the wind blows cold: when it is summer in the light and winter in the shade." Well, regardless of the outdoor temperature, you will always find a constant warmth here at BaseLine!
We hope you will join us on Saturday, March 19th, from 7:00 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. at the Plymouth Arts Council on Sheldon Road. (Details are included on the attached flyer.) There will be 10 open mic spots available allowing for 2 songs or a maximum of 10 minutes for each singer. These will be scheduled before and after the 8:00 p.m. feature.
Maggie Zakem is your host and has been involved with BaseLine since the early days back at the Art House in Northville. Songs with beautiful melodies that tell a story are Maggie's favorite and she sings them so sweetly with her exquisite guitar accompaniment. As host, Maggie will perform 2 songs and introduce the performers throughout the evening.
Your feature for March is the Folk Laureates. With Scott Ludwig pickin' the banjo strings, John Delle-Monache on guitar with his fabulous licks, and me (Cathy Miller) just strumming along with our vocals; we have 'more fun than a barrel of monkeys!' (I looked this idiom up and Miriam Webster says, "it is from the U.S., informal and old-fashioned; meaning very funny and enjoyable.") We can't wait to perform our 30 minute set for you beginning at 8:00 p.m. so we can share the fun!
Once again, we want to stress the importance of being safe in this group gathering. We encourage everyone who is not fully vaccinated to wear a mask and keep a safe distance. If you are not feeling well or have been in contact with someone who has tested positive (with or without symptoms), please stay home and join us another time when it is safe to do so.
We look forward to seeing you on March 19th!
Be well and be safe.
President, BaseLine Folk Society
The Baseline Folk Society meets every third Saturday of the month between September and May.... There will be 10 open mic spots available for the talented performers who come to share their music with us here at BaseLine. A few will perform before the feature presentation and the rest will follow our guest feature. If you or someone you know is interested in performing, please come and sign up between 6:15 and 6:40 p.m. If more than 10 performers sign up, a lottery will be held for the open spots. First-time performers at BaseLine always have a spot in the lineup.
