Every Summer Wednesday at Noon

In Kellogg Park, Plymouth

Some place like home by Tony Bruscato, June 19, 2008

Detroit Red Wings goalie Chris Osgood said living in Plymouth reminds him of the small British Columbia town in the Rocky Mountains he grew up in, only bigger.

"It feels like home in Canada," Osgood said, getting some recuperating time after weeks of activity following the Red Wings' Stanley Cup victory. "It has the same old streets with big trees hanging over them, like in Medicine Hat; lots of parks with kids' playgrounds; you can walk downtown and the school …is close. And the downtown is nice here. …

In the off-season, there is plenty of time to spend with their two children - 7-year-old Mackenzie and 3-year-old Sydney - who, as most kids, like playing at the fountain in Kellogg Park.

"When Chris is gone and I'm trying to be creative with stuff to do, they just want to go to the park," Jenna said. "And they like Gabriala's because they love Webkinz. And we just love Music in the Park." …

There are more strollers per-capita in Kellogg Park every Summer Wednesday at Noon than any place else in the country.

Imagine a place, a park, filled with babies, young children, moms, dads, grandmas & grandpas, aunts, uncles, friends, gathered together, sitting on blankets, sharing a picnic lunch, all shaded by old trees.  And right at 12:00 pm, someone starts playing a guitar, singing a song, or drumming on a drum.  By 12:01, children are dancing, moms are relaxing and everyone has a great time.  At 1:00 pm, the music stops, families pack up their picnic baskets and head for home.  They return the following Wednesday.

How does that sound?  Relaxing?  Fun?  Peaceful?  Happy?  See for your self.  Join us in Kellogg Park!

The PCAC is thrilled again this year to receive financial support from the Wilcox Foundation for our Music in the Park and Saturdays@the Penn family programs.

Johnston H. (“Jack”) Wilcox established a Charitable Trust in 1980 for the benefit of his hometown, Plymouth, Michigan and the Plymouth Community .  Today it is called the Wilcox Foundation.   Jack wanted his assets to be used to make community based grants with impact, and to connect the grant making with community betterment.  The Wilcox foundation capitalizes on co-funding and partnering opportunities while  promoting good works and projects that create lasting benefits or provide an ongoing return to the community.

PCAC programs such as Music in the Park and Saturdays @the Penn are just such projects, bringing music and family entertainment to the Plymouth community .

Our special thanks go out to the Wilcox foundation for their continued philanthropic support of  the PCAC.  We could not continue these fabulous programs without their generosity.
