Juror, Dennis Jones
Dennis Jones, Originally from Detroit, Dennis Jones now resides in Plymouth, Michigan. He is a licensed practicing architect, an educator and artist. He completed his formal education as an architect from the University of Detroit in 1983. He completed his Master of Fine Arts, in Painting, from Wayne State University in 1990. Since, he has exhibited his work extensively in the Detroit area and beyond.
Jones has been an adjunct professor of color theory, 2d and 3D design concepts at The College for Creative Studies since 2002. He has also taught architectural design and drawing at The University of Detroit, Wayne State University and Macomb County Community College.
He won a, "Best of Show Award", for his triptych painting entry to the “Artists Among Us Exhibition", a juried, traveling exhibition, involving poets and musicians reactions to the visual arts. In July, 2002 he installed a permanent outdoor sculpture at Plymouth Community Arts Center. In August 2002, he completed a significant commission to design and install the Sandra Sagear Wall of Courage, a large 19’ by 10’ mural and stone sculpture located in the new Plymouth High School. Several of his outdoor sculptures were on exhibit in the city of Saugatuck’s Art’roundtown exhibition.

The Damaris Awards were established in memory of Damaris (Dee) Schulte by her family: husband, Dick, sons, Philip and Mike. Dee, an artist in her own right, earned a Bachelor's Degree in Art and a Master's Degree in Art Education. The Damaris Award honors Dee as an artist and recognizes the dedication and many contributions she made to the Plymouth Community Arts Council (PCAC):
· Creator of “The Damaris Booklets” · Established the Middle School Art Contest, named the Damaris Award · Taught art classes for the PCAC · A board member for 7 years · Wrote the PCAC history and kept the scrapbooks · Designed the Follies program

The Plymouth Community Arts Council will recognize a Plymouth-Canton School district high school senior who has displayed outstanding abilities in visual arts and plans to continue his/her education in this field. Students should submit a minimum of three (3) to a maximum of (5) pieces of art. Each piece, as well as the portfolio, must be labeled. At least one piece of artwork must be framed. Students will also be required to submit two letters of recommendation, a statement about the work being submitted, a one page essay describing how art affects you life and a recent photo. Award Amount : $1,000.00 |
