Local Artists, Patrons and Businesses Partner to Raise Money for Plymouth. PLYMOUTH, MICH. April 21,2005 – Chicago had cows, Cincinnati had pigs, Cleveland had guitars —now the City of Plymouth and Plymouth Township have joined forces to adorn their community with festive, eye-catching pop art. This summer’s public art display project, called BenchART.plymouth, is co-sponsored by Plymouth Newcomers & Neighbors and the Plymouth Community Arts Council.
What is this project? From June through September, custom-painted park benches will be displayed throughout Plymouth and Plymouth Township. The project, supported by donations of talent by various local artists and bench sponsors (through monetary donations).
Will the benches be available for sale? Yes! This project will culminate with an auction of the painted benches at the Plymouth Cultural Center on September 23, 2005. There will also be a limited number of small benches available for sale at Art in the Park. Auction proceeds will go to PCAC, and the City and Township for beautification purposes.
How many benches are being displayed? There will be 15 large (adult) benches and 15 child-size benches on display.
Who benefits from this project? Everyone! The general public will enjoy viewing the benches from June through September. Auction proceeds will go to PCAC, and the City and Township for beautification purposes. The City, Township, sponsors and artists will enjoy great publicity.
BenchART.plymouth has been endorsed by both Plymouth Township and the City of Plymouth. “I think this is another fantastic way to bring people to our wonderful community,” said Plymouth Township Supervisor Richard Reaume. “The benches will be a fun, attractive addition to our area this summer, and will undoubtedly bring additional attention to our retailers and restaurants.”
Can I sponsor a bench? We are happy to announce that all benches have been sponsored. We want to thank all our sponsors for their generous support of this project
